Als Avifauna wird die Gesamtheit aller in einer Region vorkommenden Vogelarten bezeichnet.cite-ref-herder-1-0[1] Der Name leitet sich von den lateinischen WΓΆrtern avis β€žVogelβ€œ und Fauna β€žTierweltβ€œ ab.cite-ref-herder-1-1[1] Die Vogelwelt einer Landschaft wird auch als β€žOrnisβ€œ (griechisch ὄρνις ornis β€žVogelβ€œ) bezeichnet.

Neben der Avifauna lassen sich auch andere Tiergruppen einer Region erfassen; diese werden entsprechend etwa als Entomofauna (Insekten), Ichthyofauna (Fische) oder Herpetofauna (Reptilien/Amphibien) benannt.
